That was a tough one… but I paid the price (see next post)
Tough! 80 minute run this morning - longest I’ve ever done. Knocked off 12km - very sore but very happy
Odd one today - 40 minute run, starting slowly and then bumping up the pace every ten minutes. Was pretty easy to knock off 40 minutes but strange trying to pace myself in different blocks regardless of the terrain.
This one needed to be at “a pace you can hold a conversation at”, so I was running at a short pace-length run (usually I run at 5:40/km, this was more like 7: 20/km. Can see how I’ll need to adjust pace for the big one.
I think this is the pace that they app wants you to run at on race day? Was an ok run, if a little slow in the middle.
God to have a long walk on non-running days. Max accompanied me on this one:
Good run this morning - slow pace (around 6 min per km) and no issues at all. Aiming to build to a comfy 10 by the end of February.
There’s a race in Albany at the end of March which could work - I’ll be into the half marathon training, and could do a 10km to practice running with a group again.
All done - good time and running was good. Start was painful, as there was a big crowd to get through.
Finished in the top half, which was nice - but this wasn’t exactly the New York Marathon 🙂
Did an early start slow paced run with the app - 20 min run, 1 min walk, 9 min run. Last km was surprisingly comfortable.
Actual race is Sunday morning - I’ll be happy if I can break 30 mins for this one. Still just getting into there running frame of mind, and working out what to listen to - I’m starting to lean towards podcasts over music.
Run was fine but there’s a ten percent difference between the Apple Watch and the Run Training app in terms of distance. Watch said that I ran 4.8km, App said that I ran 4.4km. Hmm.
The green areas on the map were my fastest bits - the red bit is where the app made me walk for one minute.
Here’s the Sunday route - it almost goes past my house…
I’ll have a crack at it on Friday. It’s not far, but will be weird running it at the same time as other people on Sunday.
Not sure if I’ll do 5km or 10km (apparently you just decide on the morning how many laps you want to do…)
I’ve never run an actual race, so wanted to see what it was like running in a bunch of people.
Also, I didn’t want my real name to be searchable in running databases, so I have created a running pseudonym:
I’m using Running Trainer - it has modules for 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon.
I’m fast tracking the 5km and have almost finished it, and will slide into the 10km program next week.
So far I’ve knocked off 10 sessions in December, and 4 in January (took a break when I munted my back again in late December, and while we were camping in early January).
The App tracking is pretty good, and is a nice way to track progress - I’m currently running around 5:30-5:50 per kilometre (the App counts the compulsory walking stages so the actual speeds are a bit faster - I track those on my watch).
In 2021 I’m going to have a crack at the Auckland Marathon (ideally the 42km one, but I’ll still be happy if I can knock off the half marathon - I’m not much of a runner).
I’ve done 5km and 10km runs before, but never longer - and in the last few years I’ve let my cardio fitness slip a wee bit (ok, a lot).
I’m going to keep this page as a (partially hidden) diary and log to push myself along…
