cracker in four dimensions

here's a 4d scan of cracker from last thursday's appointment with our obstetrician.  you're forgiven if you thought it was actually a mars surface photo beamed down from NASA.

you can see an eye, nose and the upper lip - the thing on the left is the umbilical cord, and that thing on his/her left cheek (your right) is his/her arm.  i'm looking forward to january so i can stop saying "his/her" all of the time.

...and awesome news from a few minutes ago, jonathan and laura just had a baby boy. jonathan's text says it's a "beautiful" baby boy, but i've had no photo evidence yet... (just kidding jonathan - now hurry up and send photos). hefty little fella weighed in at 9 pounds 9 ounces.

bloody airlines

just looking at the cost of getting home with mini-narly next march, and it annoys me greatly to see that air new zealand can get me to london for HK$2050 HK$4080 plus various taxes, but the best offer i can get to go to new zealand is HK$6500 plus (loads of) taxes.  it's amazing what a complete lack of competition can do for the price of flying. there are more than 15 airlines flying from hong kong to london direct.  and how many fly directly to new zealand? two - air new zealand and cathay pacific.

NB - Corrected the numbers. The Air NZ site had a one way deal of HK$2040, but still - $2000+ per person extra to get back to New Zealand is completely kumara-sucking.

us elections this week.  is it possible for them to screw things up for the third time in a row? probably.

baby's first kilt

another quiet day in london - we're babysitting gorgeous penny for a few hours while charlie and sarah check out the local primary school (for charlie in 2011!) dinner in clapham with michael des tombe tonight and dinner with anna and kieran tomorrow at the uk headquarters of the 'pinot noir club (est 2008)'.

our trip so far seems to be an eating tour - sweet. had our first toad in the hole last night, courtesy of tim.

finally, another cute gift for cracker the unborn: a little kilt from damon and lynn (aka the bride and groom)...

cute clothes

. .

a partner at my work has just come back from london and brought with her cracker's first outfit - it's a cute little one-month old outfit from marks & spencer and it's just adorable.  it's also winter weight, which is handy, given that cracker is due to arrive in january - one of the coldest months in hk. click to see the little picture a bit closer.
